Yes, it's completely normal for it to look fake, due to the lighting and everything else going on, it doesn't look bad on camera. I found a technique that works, I don't over-apply foundation or concealer. I love colorful eyeshadow, but I do it in natural lighting, so it looks fine in natural lighting. You could use a nice natural looking matte eyeshadow with a little lilac color to match the dress. Use eyeshadow to softly line under your eyes and wear mascara on bottom lashes.
